Being the animal lovers that we are, we’re excited to announce that our very own Michael Munz, agency partner/evp and longtime animal welfare advocate, has been named president of the Jacksonville Humane Society’s board of directors.
His first next major duty will be overseeing the nonprofit’s upcoming capital campaign, which will raise funds to rebuild the Beach Boulevard shelter facility that was destroyed by fire more than five years ago, according to a news release.
“Our community has come a long way in how we approach animal welfare issues. With the combined efforts of JHS, First Coast No More Homeless Pets, Animal Care and Protective Services and the many dedicated organizations that work in coordination for the benefit of animals in our community, I can think of no better time for us to move our plans forward to make Jacksonville no-kill by 2014,” Michael said. “A new campus … will be at the heart of this community-wide movement, focusing on animal welfare and community education.”
Michael has previously served as chair of the Sulzbacher Center during its capital campaign to expand its campus, as chair of the Jacksonville Children’s Commission and on the boards of the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville and Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce.
“Michael’s service to animals in our community comes full circle,” Denise Deisler, society executive director, said in the release. “Starting at 14 years of age, he worked weekends cleaning cages and caring for animals at our Beach Boulevard shelter, while also organizing the first Junior Humane Society of young volunteers to care for the animals. Today, Michael is a tireless promoter of animals and has unrivaled experience in the nonprofit community, making him the perfect person to lead JHS into the future.”
