Dalton has a lot of interns come in and out our doors, therefore, we’ve gotten really successful at what works and what doesn’t. When asked for advice for future interns, here’s what our employees wanted to share.
“Be willing to do anything and always ask questions about how it fits into
the larger picture (for tasks small and large) so you can learn. Ask for more tasks if you can handle them and turn them around in the necessary time frame.” -Joe Wolf, PR (former Dalton intern)
“Sometimes you may not be given the most exciting work, but you will still learn a lot along the way. Take in as much as you possibly can- it will help you in the future. Have a positive attitude. Ask LOTS of questions. Always offer to help.” -Katelea Burkhart, PR (former Dalton intern)
“RULE #1: Your AD is always right. RULE #2: When you’re AD is wrong, go back to Rule #1.” -Omar Rodriguez, Post Production
“People get out of an internship what they put in. If you have a question, ask it. Now is your chance.” Kevyn Faulkenberry, Digital
“Listen, and ask the right questions.” -Katie Wilson, Post Production
“Live off your parents as long as you can.”
-Sean Weiss, Media
“Dress for the job you want, not the mall job at “forever 21″ where your abs
get you extra credit. If you want to have a creative internship and a creative career, please do not send in your resume as a word document.” -Kim Tippin, Creative
“Be proactive in asking what you can do to be supportive and productive for
agency clients. Make sure that you meet key people in the areas in which you are interning and spend some time finding out how people have been successful in their key areas of interest.” -Michael Munz, PR
“Somebody has to do it, why shouldn’t it be you!”
-Valerie Huelster, Creative
“Take notes. Show up on time. Research is your friend. Show initiative. Take the opportunity seriously, you never know the possibilities.” -Stephanie Burt, Social Media
“For candidates: Make sure you proofread your resume before you send and that you send me the correct cover letter. I’ve seen ones come through with
someone else’s name/company on them. For hired interns: An internship is an extended job interview. If you want a job, show us how much.” -Amanda Burgess, Account Services (former Dalton intern)
