It’s the Journey, Inc. treats its guest extremely well.

Representatives from the Dalton Agency were on hand this past Monday when It’s the Journey, Inc., the non-profit organization responsible for putting on the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer, granted $770,000 to Atlanta organizations dedicated to helping women and their families deal with the debilitating effects of this disease.  It’s the Journey, Inc. has now distributed $6.6 million since 2003.

It’s the Journey exists to support the organizations that serve Atlanta’s breast cancer community,” said Robin Cohen, Executive Director of It’s the Journey, Inc. “The walkers, volunteers, sponsors and the entire Atlanta community have given a significant amount of their time and energy to assist our mothers, sisters, daughters and friends living with breast cancer. Tonight’s event is about celebrating those individuals and their tireless efforts in support Atlanta’s breast cancer community.”

It’s the Journey presented checks to area hospitals, organizations and health centers that focus on breast cancer education, research, early detection, awareness and support services. Grantees include the American Cancer Society, Breast Friends, Inc., Cancer Navigators, Center for Black Women’s Wellness, Center for Pan Asian Community Service, DeKalb Medical Foundation, Floyd Healthcare Foundation, Georgia Cancer Foundation, Northside Hospital: Hereditary Cancer Program, Piedmont Hospital, Saint Joseph’s Mercy Care Services, Turning Point Women’s Healthcare, and the Young Survivors Coalition: Greater Metro Atlanta Area.

“Cancer ravages more than a person’s health.  It often has a devastating effect on finances, crippling a family’s ability to meet financial obligations,” said Sandy Ray with the American Cancer Society. “Thanks to a grant from It’s the Journey, Inc., the American Cancer Society is able to help breast cancer patients in the Atlanta area who are facing eviction, are behind in their mortgage payments or are unable to pay their utility bills due to the overwhelming costs associated with fighting and treating cancer.”
